West Midlands Police have launched a fresh public appeal for information, marking one year since the unsolved murder of a young father in Birmingham.
A Family Man Gunned Down
Raad Asmael, aged 27, was killed after being shot inside a car on Friday, November 22, last year. The incident occurred at the junction of Rotton Park Road and City Road in the Edgbaston area just after 11pm.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, the beloved husband, son, father, and brother was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was also injured during the same attack but thankfully went on to recover from his wounds.
An Ongoing Investigation
In the aftermath of the shooting, a significant police operation led to the arrest of eight individuals. Six men, aged between 21 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. Two others, aged 25 and 31, were held on suspicion of assisting an offender.
All were released on bail pending further inquiries. To date, no one has been charged in connection with Raad's death.
A Plea for Answers on the Anniversary
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Poole, from the force's homicide team, is leading the renewed appeal. He emphasised that the investigation remains active and that the family desperately needs closure.
"We have followed up several lines of enquiry but we are again appealing to anyone who was in the area to come forward," DCI Poole stated. "You may have spotted someone in the area, or a vehicle. No matter how small, all information is key to our investigation."
