Man arrested after deliberate fire in Stafford town centre

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a deliberate fire in Stafford town centre. The fire, which involved a skip and several bins, broke out on Eastgate Street on Monday afternoon, August 17.

Fire Crews Respond to Eastgate Street Incident

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene at around 12.30pm and extinguished the blaze. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The suspect, who is of no fixed address, remained in police custody last night.

Sergeant Gillespie, of the Stafford local policing team, said: "With the warm, dry weather we have experienced recently, the risk of any fire spreading and causing significant damage is high. Thankfully the fire was extinguished quickly by firefighters and an arrest was made."

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police added: "Anyone who has CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage of the area at the time can contact us on 101, quoting incident 312 of 17 August, or use Live Chat on our website."
