A man who 'casually' threw a loaded gun out of a window as police raided his home has been jailed. Tiron DeSuza attempted to get rid of the revolver as officers surrounded his address on March 4 to arrest him on other matters.
The firearm and rounds of ammunition, which were wrapped in a plastic bag, were recovered from a flat roof after an officer securing the rear of the property in Watnall Road, Hucknall, saw a landing window open and items being thrown out.
Police Drone Captures Evidence
Police drone footage showed there was nothing on the roof prior to officers' arrival. It also captured the moment the window was opened. However, when questioned after his arrest, DeSuza denied the firearm was his or that he had discarded it. He claimed the window was open because he burned incense.
Court Hearing and Sentencing
DeSuza, 26, later pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. He was jailed for seven years and two months at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday, June 3.
Following the hearing, PC Paulina Goral, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Desuza was happy to casually throw a viable, loaded firearm and ammunition out a window in an attempt to evade justice.
“Criminals will often try to discard weapons or drugs when officers attend their address but we had secured the property and observed Desuza at the window.
“Being in possession of a firearm is a very serious offence and Desuza clearly had little concern for anyone in the neighbourhood in which he lived.
“Thankfully, firearms and firearms offences are extremely rare in Nottinghamshire and we are proactive in our efforts to take them off the streets and keep the public safe.”
