Police swarmed Great Lister Street in Nechells this morning, blocking the road during rush hour and forcing a bus service to divert. Officers in tactical vests were seen carrying out investigations in the area on Tuesday, August 18, with a police van pictured in the middle of the road.
Road blocked and bus diverted
The number 66 bus service was diverted away from the scene via Rupert Street, Nechells Park Way and Dartmouth Middleway in both directions. A spokesperson for National Express confirmed the diversion on social media platform X, stating: "Great Lister Street, Nechells - incident. Service 66 diverting via Rupert Street, Nechells Park Way and Dartmouth Middleway in both directions."
Great Lister Street is located near Aston University. The exact nature of the incident was unclear at the time of publication.
Police presence and response
Images from the scene, captured by photographer Nick Wilkinson, showed the police van positioned in the road as officers conducted their enquiries. BirminghamLive has contacted West Midlands Police for comment, but no further details have been released so far.
