Woman, 78, killed in Asda car park collision named

Police have named a 78-year-old woman who died after being struck by a car in a supermarket car park in Oldham.

Details of the fatal incident

Margaret Crichton from Oldham succumbed to significant injuries following a collision at the Asda store on Greenfield Lane in Shaw. The incident occurred at 6.50pm on Tuesday, December 18.

According to Greater Manchester Police, the driver of a Peugeot Expert was exiting the car park when the vehicle collided with Ms Crichton, who was reportedly returning to her own vehicle at the time.

Police investigation and appeal

A 35-year-old man, the driver involved, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. The force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is leading the enquiry.

Officers are now urgently trying to locate Margaret Crichton's next of kin, who are believed to reside in either Manchester or Yorkshire.

GMP is issuing a public appeal for anyone who knew Margaret or her family to make contact. They are also keen to hear from any witnesses to the collision, anyone with information, or drivers who may have captured relevant dashcam footage.
