The Issa brothers, Zuber and Mohsin, have reaffirmed their deep commitment to their hometown with the grand opening of a £5 million mosque and community hub in Blackburn. The new Masjid E Vali, located on the former site of Westholme Junior School on Preston New Road, represents a significant investment in the area's social and spiritual infrastructure.
A Tribute to Fatherly Values and Community Spirit
Funded entirely by the Issa Foundation, the charitable arm established by the Blackburn-born entrepreneurs and EG Group founders, the mosque is named in memory of their late father, Vali Issa. Zuber Issa emphasised that the project embodies his father's core principles of compassion, humility, and service to others.
He stated, "Masjid E Vali stands as a tribute to my father's values. He believed in the power of community, in opening doors rather than closing them, and in bringing people together regardless of faith, ethnicity or background." The brothers envision the facility evolving into a beacon of unity, learning, and understanding for future generations.
Council Leaders Hail Transformative Development
During a recent weekend tour, Blackburn with Darwen Council leader, Councillor Phil Riley, lauded the mosque as "an impressive and inspiring community asset." He highlighted the Issa brothers' enduring pride in their local roots and their tangible commitment to the town's prosperity.
Councillor Riley remarked, "Transforming this former school site into such an impressive and welcoming place of worship and education demonstrates a strong commitment to the town and its people. What impressed me most was the clear ambition for Masjid E Vali to be a place that brings people together."
Architectural Excellence and Sustainable Design
The mosque's design masterfully blends classic Islamic architecture with contemporary elements, utilising high-quality local materials. Notable sustainable features include solar panels installed on the roof to help power the building, alongside extensive landscaping that enhances the local environment.
Accompanied by chief executive Denise Park and growth boss Councillor Quesir Mahmood, council representatives were given a comprehensive tour by the mosque's management team. The facility boasts:
- Dedicated prayer spaces for men and women
- A crèche and children's play area
- An adjacent community building with flexible event space

Councillor Mahmood underscored the inclusive vision behind Masjid E Vali, noting that while it will serve local worshippers and those from further afield, its doors are open to everyone. "The message from the Issa family and the management team is clear that everyone is welcome," he said. "The facility is designed not only as a place of worship, but as a community hub for people of all faiths and none."
This five-year project, from initial planning to completion, marks a pivotal moment for Blackburn with Darwen, providing a modern, eco-friendly space dedicated to prayer, community cohesion, and lifelong learning.
