Two young boys who died in a house fire in Wolverhampton have been named by police. Three-year-old J'Saun and one-year-old Xaliq lost their lives in the blaze that broke out at a property on Mason Street at around 8.30pm on Friday, April 24.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the burning home and rescued the children, but they were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other children and a woman were already outside the house when emergency services arrived. They were assessed by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment and were discharged at the scene.
Woman Arrested and Released on Bail
A woman in her 30s was arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of two children. She has since been released on bail as the investigation continues.
West Midlands Police stated that they are working with West Midlands Fire Service to determine the cause of the fire. Detective Inspector David Cooper said: “Our investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fire continues. We are supporting the family of the two young boys at this devastating time.”
Police Appeal for Information
Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward. A force spokesperson said: “We were called to the fire in Mason Street at around 8.30pm on Friday, along with colleagues from the fire and ambulance service. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and rescued two young children. Sadly, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, nothing could be done to save them and they were pronounced dead at the scene.”
