A woman arrested following a fatal house fire in Wolverhampton has been released on police bail, West Midlands Police have confirmed.
Incident Details
The woman, in her 30s, was detained on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of two children after a blaze on Mason Street claimed the lives of boys aged one and three. Emergency services were called at around 8.30pm on Friday, April 24.
Firefighters entered the property and rescued the two young children, but they were pronounced dead a short time later. A woman and two other children were treated at the scene by medics and subsequently discharged.
Investigation Update
The road remains cordoned off as investigations continue. A police spokesperson said: "A woman arrested following the fatal fire in Mason Street, Wolverhampton, on Friday evening has been released on police bail as investigations continue."
"A scene remains in place, and we would like to thank the local community for their patience and support at this difficult time."
Police Appeal
DCI Kylie Westlake, from the public protection unit, stated: "This is a truly tragic incident and our thoughts remain very much with those who loved the children who have been lost."
"We understand the shock and distress this awful incident will have caused to many people and we are working at pace to ascertain exactly what has happened."
