Bride with alopecia walks down aisle without wig after groom's heartfelt request
Alopecia bride marries without wig in Crete ceremony

A bride from Newcastle who has lived with alopecia since childhood made a powerful and personal choice for her wedding day, walking down the aisle without her wig after her husband-to-be expressed a simple wish: to marry the woman he first fell in love with.

A Decision Rooted in Love and Confidence

Dani G, 27, was diagnosed with alopecia universalis at just two years old after her mother, Julie, 57, noticed patches of thinning hair. By the time she was a teenager, she had lost all hair from her scalp and body. Despite this, Dani's parents raised her to feel confident and beautiful, whether she chose to wear a wig or not.

She met her now-husband, Jack Willis, 32, in late 2018 at the gym while she was training as a competitive swimmer. Significantly, she was not wearing her wig during that first encounter. The couple dated for five years before getting engaged in May 2023 during a holiday in Santa Pola, Spain.

The Walk Down the Aisle in Crete

In May 2025, the pair tied the knot in Crete, Greece, surrounded by 20 close family and friends. Up until the day itself, Dani was uncertain about her look, even sharing her extensive wig collection on social media for advice. However, she ultimately decided to honour Jack's earlier sentiment.

"He said I'd love to marry you and see you how I fell in love with you on the day," Dani recalled. "He never pressured me. The decision was down to me... On the day I felt super confident, it's one of the most beautiful times I've ever felt." She walked down the aisle with her father, Lance, 58, without her wig, a move that pleasantly surprised their guests.

Multiple Looks for a Joyous Celebration

True to her personality as a content creator who enjoys changing her style, Dani opted for multiple looks throughout the celebration. For the wedding meal and speeches, she wore a blonde up-do wig. Later, she changed into a second dress for the evening reception and switched to a long, brunette wig.

Now six months into married life, Dani describes it as "the most beautiful" she has ever felt. The online reaction to her wedding photos has been overwhelmingly positive. "Reading comments from people going through hair loss... most people were saying it gave them hope or encouragement," she said.

Her husband Jack added his own touching reflection: "As soon as I saw Danielle from the get go I was pretty sure Danielle was my person. Obviously I wanted her to go down the aisle without a wig on as it was where we first met. I know she's such a confident woman... I love my wife a lot and she's my best friend really."
