Mum and daughter shed 10 stone after poster inspires life change
Birmingham duo lose 10 stone with Slimming World

A mother and daughter from Birmingham have transformed their lives and their health, shedding an incredible combined total of around ten stone after a chance sighting of a local poster.

The Turning Point: A Poster That Changed Everything

For 42-year-old Colette Glenn, years of struggling with diet fads, from juicing and fasting to strict calorie counting, had failed to deliver lasting results. The breakthrough came unexpectedly when her daughter, 22-year-old Jade Glenn, spotted an advertisement for a local Slimming World group. This simple discovery in June last year prompted the pair to take action and sign up at The Brandwood Centre on Allens Croft Road in Kings Heath.

Their commitment yielded remarkable results. Jade successfully reduced her weight from 13 stone 5 pounds down to 9 stone 9 pounds. Her mother, Colette, achieved an even more dramatic loss, going from 15 stone 12.5 pounds to 10 stone 11 pounds. Colette's incredible transformation was formally recognised when she was named Slimming World's Woman of the Year for 2025.

Embracing a New Lifestyle Beyond the Scales

Their journey was about much more than just numbers on a scale. A spokesperson for Slimming World explained that Colette discovered a newfound passion for cooking through the organisation's Food Optimising plan. Once a stranger in her own kitchen, she now confidently prepares nutritious, home-cooked meals for her entire family.

Jade complemented the dietary changes by getting active, taking part in dance classes to help shift the unwanted weight and improve her fitness. Their consultant, Jeni O’Brien, witnessed the profound change firsthand. "From a hesitant newcomer to a radiant role model, Colette’s journey is a testament to the power of community, the strength of family, and the magic of believing in yourself," O’Brien said.

A Beacon of Hope for Others

O’Brien added, "She’s not just our Woman of the Year, she’s a beacon of hope for anyone ready to take that first step." The group continues to welcome new members, with a warm invitation extended to others in the Kings Heath area who might be considering a similar change.

The Glenn family's story underscores a powerful message: sustainable weight loss is often found not in isolation or extreme measures, but through supportive community networks and holistic lifestyle changes. Their success, sparked by a single poster, serves as an inspiring example of what can be achieved with the right support system.
