Free Healthy Cooking Classes Launch in Bournemouth to Foster Community Connections

A new Cook and Connect session has been introduced in Bournemouth, providing free healthy cooking classes aimed at bringing people together while they acquire new culinary skills. Organised by The Friendly Food Club, this rolling six-week course is held on Monday mornings at Elim Church on Curzon Road in Springbourne, running from 10.30am to 12.30pm during term time.

Inclusive Sessions for All Skill Levels

The classes are open to beginners, improvers, and carers who wish to learn how to prepare affordable meals from scratch in a relaxed and social environment. Each week, participants collaborate to make a different dish, such as tomato and vegetable pasta sauce, vegetable pancakes, or rainbow stir fry. After cooking, they have the option to sit down and enjoy the meal together or take it home.

Positive Impact on Participants

Andrea Leng, who attends with her son Ben, who has type 1 diabetes, shared that the sessions have significantly boosted his confidence while teaching him fundamental cooking techniques. Another attendee, Arsenal Whittick, mentioned that the course has motivated him to cook healthier meals for his family. Friendly Food Club tutor Sally Brown emphasised that the goal is to empower individuals to cook healthy, budget-friendly food with assurance while forming local connections.
