Reality TV star JoJo Siwa has issued a playful but firm ultimatum to her boyfriend, Chris Hughes, declaring she will propose to him herself if he doesn't ask for her hand in marriage within the next seven years.
A Christmas Proposal is Off the Cards
The 22-year-old singer and dancer, who met the 32-year-old Love Island alumnus while filming Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, revealed the couple's contrasting views on matrimonial timing. The discussion emerged after Hughes insisted he would never propose during the festive season, a period he considers too predictable for such a significant gesture.
Chris explained his stance to The Sun's Fabulous magazine, stating, "You always get people who get engaged at Christmas. I see it on Instagram every year. I like the idea of it not being at a time where it could be expected."
JoJo's Playful Threat and the 2032 Deadline
Not one to be deterred, JoJo Siwa hinted at her own desires when Chris asked what she wanted for Christmas. "I said 'a ring'," she revealed. "And he said 'really?' I replied 'a Ring doorbell'. But what if I got him a ring?"
Chris was initially uncomfortable with the idea of being proposed to, responding, "You can't. I don't think you should propose. I don't agree... I think if I was proposed to that would make me really uncomfortable."
Undeterred, JoJo laid down a clear timeline. She declared she would wait seven years before taking matters into her own hands. "I wouldn't do it unless you waited seven years," she said. "And then I'd be like 'alright, I'm getting down on one knee then'. If you waited that long, I'd be like 'ok'."
A Relationship That Began in Secret
Chris Hughes agreed that the lengthy deadline was fair, noting, "It shouldn't take you seven years to work out if you want to marry someone. So you can go off that and then that won't ever happen."
However, JoJo Siwa has already marked a specific date in her calendar, playfully warning him, "Just so you know, May 27th 2032, I will be down on one knee. I will not wait one extra day."
The couple also clarified the timeline of their romance. While it was initially believed they started dating in June, JoJo confirmed they had secretly begun their relationship a month earlier in May, keeping their connection private before going public.
