A mother from Liverpool has described a gift of weight loss injections from her father as the "best Christmas present ever" after it helped her shed an incredible 13 stone.
A Life-Changing Christmas Wish
Emilly Murray, 35, had battled with her weight and binge eating for most of her life. At her heaviest, she weighed 22 stone 1.5lbs and wore a size 30, consuming around 5,000 calories a day on foods like takeaways, pizza, and sweets.
Despite numerous diet attempts, she always regained the weight. The turning point came in December 2024 when her father, Paul Murray, 55, asked what she wanted for Christmas. Her answer was straightforward: she wanted to try the medication Mounjaro.
The Journey to a Size Six
Emilly, a content creator and mum to three children, took her first injection on December 30, 2024. She started at 16 stone, wearing a size 24. She described an immediate mental shift, with the constant "food noise" in her head vanishing.
"I took my first dose and it was like a switch flicked in my head," Emilly said. "I didn't wake up in the morning wondering what I could eat any more. That just vanished."
Over the following year, she watched the pounds melt away. She has now slimmed down to 9 stone 2lbs and can comfortably fit into a size six – the slimmest she has been since childhood. In total, she lost nearly 13 stone, with around 7 stone of that lost while using Mounjaro.
A New Lease on Life and Future Plans
The physical transformation has brought profound life changes. Emilly now plays easily with her children – Esme, 12, Ellie, six, and Joseph, four – and feels healthier and more confident. Everyday tasks like climbing stairs are no longer a struggle.
While she experienced some side effects like constipation, she managed them through diet. Although the injections have cost around £1,500 over the year, she points out this is less than her previous annual spend on snacks and takeaways.
Emilly is now in a maintenance phase, gradually reducing her dosage with the aim of stopping. She is also preparing for an excess skin removal operation in Lithuania in May, expected to cost about £12,000.
Looking ahead to this Christmas with her partner Oliver and their children, she reflects on her transformation. "It's nice this year to feel happy and healthy," she said. "I'm in such a different headspace from last year. Thanks for the present Dad."
