Human remains have been recovered from the River Taw in the search for missing 15-year-old Taylor Charlton, who was last seen 48 days ago. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the discovery on Thursday, June 25, after officers retrieved the remains from the water near Sticklepath on Wednesday afternoon.
Discovery Details
Police were called to the scene at approximately 4.20pm on Wednesday, June 24, where the remains were recovered from the river. Taylor's family have been notified of the development, according to Devon Live. Formal identification has yet to take place.
Background of the Disappearance
Taylor was last seen on CCTV near a footpath close to Tarka Leisure Centre and the Seven Brethren car park in Barnstaple at 10.41pm on Friday, May 8. He was captured on camera heading towards the River Taw. Over the following six weeks, official search teams and local community groups combed the area for any trace of him.
Police Statement and Appeal
A police statement said: "We understand that this update will impact the local community, and we ask the public to avoid speculating and await updates from police in due course." An increased police presence is expected along the River Taw on Thursday as further enquiries are carried out.
Arrest Made
A 20-year-old man was arrested on June 12 on suspicion of murder. He has since been released on police bail.
