Police are continuing to search for the mother of a newborn baby who was found dead in a pile of waste in Rowley Regis. The infant was discovered by a waste worker at a recycling centre on Waterfall Lane on Tuesday morning.

The alarm was raised shortly after 8am when a worker noticed the baby's body among a heap of rubbish. Emergency services attended the scene, but the baby was pronounced dead. West Midlands Police have launched an investigation to trace the mother and establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, from the force's homicide team, said: "We are doing everything we can to trace the mother of this baby. Our main concern is her welfare, and we would urge her to come forward so we can provide the support she needs. We are also appealing to anyone who may have information that could help us identify her."
Appeal for Information
Police have cordoned off the area and are conducting forensic examinations. They are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to workers at the site. The baby is believed to have been born recently, and officers are trying to determine how the body came to be in the waste pile.
Det Insp Thurgood added: "This is a tragic incident, and we are keen to speak to the mother as a matter of urgency. She may be in need of medical attention, and we want to ensure she is safe and well. We would ask anyone who knows someone who has recently given birth and may be distressed to contact us."
Community Reaction
Local residents have expressed shock and sadness at the discovery. One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It's absolutely heartbreaking. You never expect something like this to happen in your community. I hope the mother is found and gets the help she needs."
Police have set up a dedicated phone line for anyone with information. They are also urging the mother to contact them directly or visit a hospital for medical care. The investigation is ongoing.
