St John Ambulance Seeks Youth Volunteer Leaders in Folkestone

St John Ambulance is urging residents of Folkestone to step forward and help train the next generation of first aiders as the charity experiences rising demand for its youth programmes. The nation's leading health response charity has identified Folkestone as a key area where more adult volunteers are needed to support its "Badgers" (ages five to 11) and "Cadets" (ages 10 to 17) units.

Volunteer Roles Available

Vacancies are currently open for youth leaders and helpers to run weekly sessions that teach practical life-saving skills alongside leadership, teamwork, and resilience. The charity emphasises that applicants do not need to be medical experts. St John provides full training and ongoing support, including first aid and safeguarding qualifications. Volunteers also gain access to benefits such as the Blue Light Card.

Personal Rewards

While the roles involve supporting young people, many volunteers find the experience personally rewarding. Working with youth units offers fresh perspectives and helps adults develop their own mentoring and leadership skills. St John Ambulance project development officer Nicole Gansbuhler said: "Watching young people grow in confidence and learn to save lives is truly inspiring. What's just as powerful is how much our volunteers learn from the young people – they bring energy and ideas that make every session special. You don't need to be an expert - just someone who cares. The training is fantastic, and the impact you make is real."
