The Ockbrook Moravian Settlement is preparing to welcome visitors for a special community celebration this August. Local residents can enjoy live music, historic exhibitions and traditional baked treats throughout the day.
German Brass Band Performance
A highlight of the event will be a performance by Moravian Brass, a visiting band travelling from Germany. The group will play a selection of popular, classical and sacred music in the local church at 4.30pm. The Moravian Church is a Protestant group formed in the 15th century in what is now the Czech Republic. It has a tradition of brass band music stretching back more than 300 years.
Although this musical custom is common in Europe and the United States, visits to British churches are rare. Costumed guides will also be on hand to share the history of the picturesque 18th-century settlement.
Exploring the Historic Settlement
Visitors can explore the six-acre site, which originally operated as a self-contained community with its own school and inn. Refreshments and traditional Moravian baked goods will be served to guests throughout the site. The Rt. Rev Joachim Kreusel, the German-born church minister, commented: "Enjoy the music of Moravian Brass, immerse yourself in our rich heritage and indulge in good food and laughter. It’s all irresistible!"

There will also be a second opportunity to hear the brass band perform. They will play during the church morning service at 11am on Sunday, August 9.
