While audiences never see her face in the musical film, the closing credits confirm that Dorothy is portrayed by British actress Bethany Weaver. This revelation ends months of intense speculation among fans of the franchise.
Bethany Weaver, who is also an accomplished choreographer and dancer, brings Dorothy to life through physical performance alone. Prior to her cinematic debut, she appeared in numerous stage productions, building a foundation for this significant role.

Weaver's casting represents a particularly meaningful career moment. Back in 2022, the actress actively manifested her desire to join the Wicked universe through social media.
She posted a video of herself performing 'The Wizard and I' on Instagram, writing: "aggressively manifesting that one day I will be in Wicked!" Her participation in both Wicked and its sequel demonstrates the power of vocalising career ambitions.
Why Dorothy Remains Faceless
Director Jon M. Chu deliberately chose to keep Dorothy's face hidden throughout the film. He explained to PEOPLE magazine that this creative decision was intentional, stating: "I didn't want to step on who you think Dorothy is in whatever story that you came into this with. [Wicked: For Good] is still Elphaba and Glinda's journey, and she is a pawn in the middle of all of it."
This perspective was echoed by star Cynthia Erivo in an interview with Empire, who noted that keeping Dorothy faceless "allows audiences to fill in the gaps themselves." She added: "I think that's such a wonderful thing to do because then everyone gets to keep the Dorothy that they know."
Prior to the official confirmation, fan speculation had run rampant, with many convinced that Matilda the Musical actress Alisha Weir would don the blue gingham dress. This theory gained traction following Weir's attendance at the Wicked premiere in 2024 and her sister's reaction to the trailer.
When questioned about the rumours, Weir told Goss.ie: "I have heard, I have seen the rumours for sure! I mean, how cool would that be? I'm such a big fan of 'Wicked' and I'm such a big fan of Ariana Grande, Cynthia and Jon Chu but that would be amazing."
