Actress and singer Dove Cameron has publicly confirmed that she auditioned for the highly sought-after role of Glinda in the upcoming cinematic adaptation of the musical Wicked. In a recent interview, she expressed her full support for Ariana Grande, who ultimately secured the part.
A Dream Role Since Childhood
Cameron revealed that playing Glinda has been a lifelong ambition, stating she had been "dreaming of it since I was, like, 7." Her name was frequently mentioned by fans in online casting discussions as far back as 2019, a campaign she acknowledged at the time by calling it "the role of a lifetime."
Speaking to The Wrap, she confirmed her participation in the extensive audition process. "I definitely went out for it," Cameron said. "I know that for everybody who did go out for it, it was a very long process. It was one of the longer processes I’ve been a part of."
Praise for a Dear Friend and the Cast
Despite her own disappointment, Cameron was effusive in her praise for the successful candidate, Ariana Grande. The two have known each other for years since their early days on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon. "I’m so excited for Ariana. She’s a genuinely dear friend of mine," Cameron shared.
She went on to commend Grande's talent and the ensemble cast as a whole. "I think she’s gonna kill it. I think the whole cast is phenomenal head to toe. So, like, as a fan, I’m really, really excited to see it," she added, describing Grande as a "living icon."

The Wicked film adaptation is being released in two parts. The second instalment, titled Wicked: For Good, is scheduled for cinematic release on 21 November 2025. The production features a star-studded cast, with Cynthia Erivo playing Elphaba opposite Ariana Grande's Glinda.
