The leading stars of the Wicked film series, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, have given an exclusive and intimate look into the genuine friendship that has flourished between them away from the cameras.
In a candid conversation, the co-stars, who play Glinda and Elphaba respectively, shared cherished memories from their time together off-set, revealing a bond as magical as the world of Oz they inhabit on screen.
Private Moments and Matching Ink
The actresses, who first began working together back in 2021, explained that some of their most treasured moments were surprisingly simple. Cynthia Erivo, 38, highlighted a spontaneous visit from Ariana Grande, 32, to her home. "Randomly, this is not necessarily on set, but remember that time when you came to my house and we just sat and chatted whilst we were filming," the Emmy award-winner recalled.
Ariana warmly agreed, citing "Hanging at Cynthia's" and "Going on a walk in The Heath" as particularly lovely experiences. Cynthia confirmed the fond memory, telling Heart, "We went for a really long walk. It was lovely."
Their connection was so profound that they decided to solidify it permanently. The London-born actress confessed that the pair got matching tattoos during their friendship. Both singers opted for the same four designs, each one holding a special significance related to Wicked or The Wizard of Oz.
On-Set Magic and Mutual Admiration
While Cynthia cherished their downtime, Ariana's favourite memories are rooted in their professional collaboration. The American pop star expressed deep admiration for her co-star's talent and their creative process together.
"Not to be so nerdy and actory, but I really loved just making space for each other's processes and learning each other's things, and taking care of each other. It was beautiful," Ariana shared.
She specifically mentioned loving "that moment at the end of the movie" when Cynthia gushed about their "special" days filming for Wicked: For Good.
A Glamorous Premiere and an Inseparable Bond
The depth of their friendship was on full display at the London premiere of Wicked: For Good on Monday night. The event took place in Leicester Square, transformed with Oz-inspired designs, where the duo walked the yellow brick road.
Dressed in sprawling gowns, the glamorous pair remained inseparable throughout the celebration, a testament to the strong bond they have built over the years of working together on the world-famous film series.
