Zero-Budget Mockumentary Celestial Intersect Screens in Birmingham

Celestial Intersect, a zero-budget mockumentary blending fiction with unscripted encounters, will be screened at The Mockingbird Cinema in Digbeth, Birmingham, on November 6 at 7.30pm. The film was made by Dudley filmmaker Ben Monk, 23, alongside Joshua Prior, 24, from Hereford.

Film follows a fame-hungry ghost hunter

The film follows the misadventures of Richard De’Vaughn, a fame-hungry ghost hunter trying to launch his own paranormal TV show. Director Ben Monk said: "Placing a fictional, totally delusional character into real-world situations with real people created moments of comedy you simply couldn't script."

Monk added: "Weaving these real encounters into a scripted narrative was a challenge for us, but we couldn’t be happier with how it’s tuned out, especially with the great reception we’ve been receiving."

Screening and Q&A in Digbeth

The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with both Mr Monk and Mr Prior. Monk said: "Screening it for a West Midlands audience where it was made is a fantastic milestone, and we really hope we can inspire other local filmmakers with our work as well."

Festival recognition

Celestial Intersect has been gaining attention on the UK indie circuit, earning a nomination for Best Feature at the Stratford-upon-Avon Film Festival and winning Best UK Short/Featurette at the RTF Film Festival in 2025.
