Queen Mary's High School in Walsall has been named among the top 50 secondary schools in England in a new league table compiled by The Telegraph. The prestigious grammar school secured 48th place nationally, achieving an impressive score of 38 out of 40 based on factors including exam performance and class sizes.
Exceptional Ofsted Rating
The latest recognition aligns with Ofsted's recent inspection, which awarded the school two new 'exceptional' grades for achievement and personal development. Inspectors described pupils' progress and results as 'truly remarkable'.
Ofsted's report stated: 'Pupils' achievement is truly remarkable. Across all key stages, pupils flourish, make impressive progress and develop strong academic understanding over time.' The report highlighted that pupils develop deep understanding across the curriculum and can confidently articulate their learning.
High Standards and Behaviour
The school's performance was noted for its ambitious expectations. Ofsted added: 'Pupils' work is of the highest quality, and they rise willingly to the ambitious expectations set by their teachers.' Behaviour was described as 'superb', with leaders acting decisively on rare unkindness. 'Pupils feel well cared for and rise to the high standards set by staff. Leaders have created a calm and purposeful environment in which pupils can flourish.'
Queen Mary's is a grammar school, attracting some of the brightest children in the Black Country region. The Telegraph's league table considered a range of criteria, giving each school a score out of 40, with Queen Mary's achieving near-perfect marks.
