Taxi Driver Among Three Litterbugs Fined Over £1,700 in Walsall
A taxi driver is among three men who have been ordered to pay a combined sum of more than £1,700 after being caught dropping litter in Walsall. The trio were hauled before court following surveillance footage that captured them littering in the town on various dates last year.
Javen Simms, Naveed Hussain, and Adam Mosaid appeared at Birmingham and Solihull Magistrates' Court on March 13 this year. Each man faced convictions for depositing litter in different locations across Walsall.
Details of the Convictions
Javen Simms, of Ashfield Avenue in Birmingham, was convicted for depositing litter on July 24, 2025, in Garden Street, Walsall. Naveed Hussain, residing on Mafeking Road in Hadley, Telford, was convicted for a similar offense on May 4, 2025, in Spout Lane, Walsall. Adam Mosaid, of Fordbrough Lane in Birmingham, was convicted for depositing litter on March 21, 2025, in High Street, Pelsall, which is part of Walsall.
All three men were each ordered to pay a £220 fine, an £88 victim surcharge, and £276.72 in costs, bringing their individual totals to £584.72. The combined amount for all three offenders exceeds £1,754, underscoring the financial consequences of such environmental offenses.
Council's Stance on Environmental Crime
A spokesperson for Walsall Council emphasized that while many Fixed Penalty Notices are paid without court intervention, cases can escalate if individuals ignore reminders. The council stated, "Where individuals ignore notices, cases can be progressed to court should reminders be ignored."
The revenue generated from these fines is reinvested into enforcement activities, including investigations and actions aimed at tackling environmental crime across the borough. This approach is part of a broader effort to maintain clean streets and promote responsible waste disposal.
Responsible Waste Disposal Options
To assist residents in disposing of waste properly, Walsall Council offers several services. Households can use the borough's Household Waste Recycling Centres located on Fryers Road in Bloxwich and Middlemore Lane in Aldridge. These facilities accept general waste, recycling materials, and bulky items.
Additionally, a bulky waste collection service is available for households unable to transport larger items. For families with growing needs or medical requirements, the council provides options to apply for larger bins through its official website.
Residents are encouraged to report instances of fly-tipping by visiting the council's online portal or calling the dedicated hotline at 01922 653355. This proactive reporting helps the council address environmental issues more effectively and maintain the cleanliness of public spaces.
