Around 40 firefighters are tackling a significant grass fire in Brownhills, Walsall, that has led to multiple road closures and bus diversions. The blaze broke out on grassland along Lindon Road this afternoon, with smoke visible from a distance.
West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) has deployed eight fire engines to the scene, with crews working to contain the flames. The fire has prompted the closure of Bridge Street, Clayhanger Lane, Lindon Road, and other nearby roads, according to West Midlands Roads.
Road closures and public safety warning
A WMFS spokesperson said: "We have eight fire crews in attendance at Lindon Road, Brownhills, Walsall where they have responded to a large grassland fire on the field area behind Lindon Road. Please avoid the area, where possible."
Walsall Council also issued a message on social media, stating: "A grass fire is currently being dealt with off Allen’s Lane, Brownhills. Please stay away from the area and allow emergency services space to safely deal with the incident. Please share to help keep others informed."
Impact on bus services and traffic
Transport for West Midlands confirmed that National Express bus services 8 and 10, which run through the area, have been affected, with diversions in place and delays expected. The road closures are expected to remain in place while firefighters continue their work.
Smoke has been seen billowing into the air, with multiple pictures appearing on social media showing the extent of the blaze. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and no injuries have been reported.
