Wild Zoological Park, a popular attraction in the Midlands, has cancelled its afternoon session today (August 12) due to the heatwave. The decision was made to ensure the safety of its animals, visitors, and staff, according to a spokesman for the park.
Heatwave prompts safety measures
The Met Office has warned that temperatures could reach as high as 38 Celsius in some parts of the Midlands today. In response, the zoo, located at Halfpenny Green Vineyard in Bobbington near Stourbridge, has adjusted its schedule to 'beat the heat'.
The park will run all of its usual shows, but in a different order to minimise heat exposure. The morning session from 10am will continue as planned, with the show timetable revised for safety.
Morning shows go ahead, afternoon cancelled
A spokesman said: "Due to the forecast heatwave expected on Wednesday 12th we have made the decision to cancel the afternoon session to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our birds, animals, team members, and guests. The morning session from 10am will continue as planned. However, the show timetable has changed for the safety of our animals, team and guests."
The park will remain open after the morning show schedule has finished, but there will be no afternoon shows. The spokesman added: "Please note that the afternoon shows are identical repeats of the morning shows. To ensure all guests receive the full WILD! experience, entry will not be permitted during the afternoon unless you have attended the morning show schedule however this is now S0LD 0UT - we are at capacity."
Tickets sold out for today and many school holiday dates
Tickets to the attraction are sold out for today, and for many dates during the school holidays. The spokesman urged potential visitors to plan ahead: "Please do not travel to the park unless you have tickets for the 10am entry on Wednesday the 12th (if you are wanting to visit this summer, many days are getting S0LD 0UT in advance so book now to avoid disappointment!)"
The morning schedule includes a dinosaur show at 10:30am, a bird show at 11:30am, an animal show at 12:30pm, and a bug show at 1:30pm. The park is known for its incredible bird shows.
The spokesman concluded: "Thank you for your understanding and continued support. The welfare of our animals, staff, and visitors is always our highest priority, and we look forward to welcoming you to WILD!"
