Major Safety Recall for Popular Winter Appliance
A crucial product recall has been issued for a winter appliance sold by some of the UK's most prominent retailers. The Valiant Radiator Fan has been urgently removed from sale due to a significant fire safety risk identified by the authorities.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards has initiated the recall, forcing retailers including B&Q, The Range, and Debenhams to pull the product from their shelves. Online marketplaces have also acted swiftly, with the fan being delisted from Amazon, eBay, Temu, and TikTok Shop.
What is the Specific Fire Hazard?
The safety concern is directly linked to the device's internal power source. Officials have confirmed that the internal Li-ion Polymer battery may fail during two key operations: while charging or when left in standby mode.
This fault can trigger a dangerous chain reaction known as thermal runaway, which can cause the product to catch fire. Because of this critical flaw, the product has been deemed non-compliant with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
Immediate Actions for Owners
If you own this device, you must take immediate precautions. The official advice is to move the fan outdoors immediately, ensuring it is placed away from any flammable materials.
Owners should not attempt to use or charge the device. The proper method of disposal is to take it to a recycling centre that accepts lithium batteries. Do not dispose of it with regular household waste.
To identify if your fan is affected, check for the following batch numbers: 967, 968, or 970. You can find this number on the base of the fan itself or on the packaging near the barcode.
