Households across the UK have a final 48-hour window to secure a festive energy boost, with an offer of £10 worth of free electricity to use on Christmas Day. The catch? You must act before the deadline passes.
How to Claim Your Christmas Power Bonus
The exclusive promotion is run by the comparison service Uswitch as part of its ongoing Power Hours scheme. To be eligible, you must own a smart meter and register for the scheme via the free Uswitch app before 11.59pm on Sunday, 21 December 2025.
Connecting your smart meter to the app is reported to take less than two minutes. The app is available for download on both the App Store and Google Play at no cost.
How the Refund Works
Uswitch will monitor participants' electricity consumption on 25 December between 8am and 4pm. They will then refund the cost of the power used during that eight-hour period, up to a maximum value of £10.
The company uses the kWh data from your smart meter, pairing it with the unit rates from your electricity tariff to calculate the refund amount. If your specific plan isn't listed, they will default to your supplier's Standard Variable Tariff (SVT) rates.
It's crucial to note that this is a refund from Uswitch, not your energy supplier. "This offer won't change your supplier's energy bill," Uswitch clarified. "The energy you use will still appear on it and you'll still need to pay it in full."
Important Dates and Payment Process
Earnings will be calculated in the weeks following Christmas, with all refunds made available for withdrawal in the app's 'Earn' tab no later than 31 January 2026.
Uswitch framed the offer as direct support for stretched budgets: "We know households are feeling the pinch, so we're offering to pay you back for your Christmas Day electricity." They emphasised that this is a limited offer, urging eligible customers not to miss out.
For those with a compatible smart meter, this presents a straightforward opportunity to offset some of the festive season's inevitable energy costs.
