Mel Schilling's Brave Cancer Journey

Mel Schilling, a beloved TV personality who has been part of Married at First Sight for twelve years across both the UK and Australian versions, first announced her departure from the show in February. At that time, she cited a need to focus on her health and family, having battled cancer since 2023. A month later, she revealed the heartbreaking news that she has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

Schilling shared that after originally being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2023, the disease metastasized by 2024, with nodules found in her lungs. The mum-of-one underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy and was optimistic about starting a groundbreaking clinical trial this March. However, over Christmas, she began experiencing blinding headaches and learned the cancer had spread to the left side of her brain.

"Despite subsequent radiotherapy sessions, my oncology team have now told me there is nothing further they can do," Schilling bravely disclosed. She ended her statement by acknowledging she does not know how much time she has left.

A Decade of Friendship and Admiration

When Schilling initially announced her departure from MAFS, John Aiken shared a post celebrating ten years of working together. He wrote, "Mel - I have long admired your resilience, warmth, expertise, kindness and strength, and I have loved and cherished our close friendship both on and off set." Aiken credited Schilling as one of the key reasons for the show's massive success, noting she will be greatly missed by the entire MAFS family.

The news of Schilling's diagnosis prompted an immediate wave of support from past MAFS contestants, colleagues, and fans worldwide. John Aiken's tribute underscores the deep bonds within the MAFS community and the profound impact Mel Schilling has had on those around her.
