The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has identified ten medical conditions that make individuals eligible for Attendance Allowance payments of up to £114.60 per week. The list includes several common ailments that affect millions of people across the UK.
Attendance Allowance Overview
Attendance Allowance is a benefit designed for people over State Pension age who require help or supervision with daily living activities. Contrary to popular belief, claimants do not need to have a formal carer to receive the payment; eligibility is based on the need for assistance rather than actual receipt of care. The benefit is not means-tested, meaning savings and income do not affect entitlement.
Most Common Conditions for Claims
Recent research reveals the most frequently cited conditions in Attendance Allowance claims. Arthritis tops the list, linked to approximately 1.7 million claims, accounting for roughly one-third of all successful applications. Other common conditions include back pain, dementia, and various cognitive disorders.

Claimants can receive the higher rate automatically if they have a terminal diagnosis with a life expectancy of six months or less.

Eligible individuals can apply by completing the Attendance Allowance claim form, available on the GOV.UK website or by contacting the DWP.
