A mother of five died after undergoing a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) performed by the self-proclaimed 'Lip King' Jordan James Parke, according to her family's lawyer. Alice Webb fell ill within hours of the procedure at a salon in Gloucester in September 2024. The 33-year-old, from Wotton-under-Edge, later passed away in hospital.
Arrests and Investigation
Her death led to the arrest of reality TV star Jordan Parke and a woman on suspicion of manslaughter. The woman was later released without charge, while Parke, from Dudley, was bailed pending further inquiries. However, the criminal investigation was closed when Parke, aged 34, died in February this year. It is believed he may have been undergoing a cosmetic procedure prior to his death in Canary Wharf, London.
Inquest Details
A full inquest into Alice's death is scheduled for autumn and will last around three days. During a pre-inquest review at Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court, Laura Collignon, representing Ms Webb’s family, argued that the inquest should be held before a jury because her death was workplace-related. She stated: “From speaking to the family, but also from looking through the records from your office, Alice was engaged in some training because she undertook these sorts of procedures herself. She was not only there having a procedure, she was being trained in a procedure, and that seems to me to be a workplace matter, and therefore a workplace fatality, and that would be notifiable. That would mean that a jury would be required.”
Katy Skerrett, senior coroner for Gloucestershire, responded: “My initial view is that Alice was a self-employed practitioner and she was being shown how to do a procedure at a friend’s house. I think you could probably argue it either way. I’m content that it should be in front of a jury.”
Witnesses and Evidence
Miss Collignon added: “You will probably be aware that Jordan Parke himself has died. He’s the person who carried out the procedure, but there were two women who were present. Jemma Pawlyszyn, it was her premises, and there was another woman who was there, who was also undertaking the training, and I’m told that the police have her identity. Given that Jordan Parke has died, and there is not an ongoing criminal investigation, that file would probably be available to you. It would be possible for you to identify that person, and to ask that person to attend, since they were actually present at the time. She was apparently, as far as the family know, not present when Alice became unwell, but she had been there earlier in the day having the procedure, which was videoed, and the police have the video of the procedure being carried out on her. We don’t know at what point she left the premises. It seems to me that it is relevant given that Mr Parke then performed the same procedure on Alice, as far as we know.”
Government Proposals and Family's Call for Ban
The Government has announced proposals to ensure that BBLs and other high-risk procedures are only performed by specified health workers. However, Alice's former partner Ben Kingscote has called for certain cosmetic procedures to be banned. Speaking after the hearing, he said: “They are talking and they are warning people, but they are not actually doing anything. They need to pull their fingers out and get it banned before someone else dies.”
