John Lewis has issued an urgent safety recall for a popular children's toy, warning customers to stop using the product immediately due to a serious choking risk.
What product is being recalled?
The recalled item is the John Lewis & Partners Wooden Roast Dinner Toy. The playset includes wooden items representing food, a wooden tray, and a wooden knife. The product was sold in John Lewis stores and online between 3rd September 2025 and 24th November 2025.
The product carries the code 75610228 and was manufactured in China. The recall was announced by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) in an urgent statement published on the government website on Boxing Day, 26th December 2025.
What is the danger?
The safety issue centres on the toy's hook and loop fastening, commonly known as Velcro. Authorities state that this fastening can detach during normal use, creating a small part.
"These small parts pose a choking hazard to young children, particularly those under 36 months of age who have a natural tendency to explore objects by placing them in their mouths," the official notice explains.
The government has confirmed that the product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
What should customers do?
The instruction from both John Lewis and the OPSS is clear: stop using the toy immediately and keep it away from babies and young children.
Affected customers are advised to:
- Cease all use of the Wooden Roast Dinner Toy.
- Return the product to any local John Lewis & Partners store.
- Customers will receive a full refund upon return, with no receipt required for items purchased within the stated dates.
John Lewis has branches across the UK, including in Solihull. The recall is a mandatory withdrawal from all end users.
This urgent product safety recall comes as John Lewis has been expanding its in-store hospitality offerings in preparation for the festive season, highlighting a contrast between customer experience initiatives and critical safety protocols.
