DWP Reviews 13 Tasks to Determine PIP Eligibility for £778 Payments

The Department for Work and Pensions is currently assessing 13 specific tasks to determine whether Personal Independence Payment claimants continue to qualify for the benefit. When individuals submit a claim for Personal Independence Payments, the DWP examines how their health conditions limit their ability to perform certain daily activities.

Benefit Increases and Payment Details

In April, most benefits are scheduled to be uprated based on September's inflation rate, resulting in a 3.8 percent increase. This adjustment applies to PIP, Disability Living Allowance, attendance allowance, carer's allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, and other related benefits.

Currently, PIP provides between £29.20 and £187.45 per week, which translates to £116.80 to £749.80 every four weeks. Following the April increase, weekly payments will rise to £30.30 to £194.60. This means claimants could receive £121.20 to £778.40 every four-week payment period, totaling up to £10,119.20 annually.

Assessment Criteria for Daily Living and Mobility Components

PIP claimants may receive the lowest rate for one or both components, the highest rate for one or both components, or a mixed award combining lower and higher rates. The DWP will send letters to all claimants before April outlining their new payment rates.

Daily living payments from PIP are available if you require assistance with:

  • Preparing food
  • Eating and drinking
  • Managing medicines or treatments
  • Washing and bathing
  • Using the toilet
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Reading
  • Managing money
  • Socialising and being around other people
  • Talking, listening, and understanding

The mobility component of PIP may be awarded if you need help with:

  • Working out a route and following it
  • Physically moving around
  • Leaving your home

Payment Schedule and Transition Period

PIP will be paid at the updated amounts per week starting Monday, April 6. It is crucial to note that most benefits are typically paid four weeks in arrears. Consequently, no claimant will receive the full new rate until one complete payment cycle after April 6 has passed. During this transition, claimants will receive a combination of old and new rates in their next scheduled payment following April 6.
