A man has died after falling from a construction site at Birmingham Children's Hospital in the city centre. Emergency services were called shortly before 10am on Friday, July 10, following reports that a man had fallen from the building.

Incident Details

The man was working on a construction site operated by BSN Group Construction at the hospital. He was sadly confirmed dead a short time later. West Midlands Police said: "We were called to Birmingham Children's Hospital after a man is understood to have fallen from the building at just before 9.50am today (10 July). The man was sadly confirmed dead a short time later and our thoughts are with his loved ones. We are liaising with the Health & Safety Executive as enquiries continue."

A spokesman for BSN Group Construction said: "We are saddened to confirm that a person has died following an incident at our construction site at Birmingham Children's Hospital on Friday, 10 July. Our thoughts are with their family, friends and colleagues at this extremely difficult time. We take health and safety very seriously, and we are assisting the police, the Health and Safety Executive and all relevant authorities with their enquiries. As investigations are ongoing, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage."

Context

The incident occurred one day after Prince Harry visited the hospital as part of a regional tour to launch the year-countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham in 2027. Police are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive as investigations get underway.
