Man's Life Saved by Off-Duty Paramedic at Pure Gym

An off-duty paramedic and ambulance crews saved a man's life at a Pure Gym in Brierley Hill after he went into cardiac arrest. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 7, at the gym on Level Street.

Emergency Response

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) received a call at 10:46 am reporting a medical emergency at the facility. Two ambulances and a MERIT trauma team were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found an off-duty paramedic already performing CPR and using a Community Public Access Defibrillator on a man in a critical condition.

Life-Saving Intervention

The off-duty paramedic had initiated resuscitation efforts before the arrival of the ambulance crews. The team continued resuscitation and successfully restarted the man's heart. A WMAS spokesperson said: 'We were called to reports of a medical emergency in Pure Gym, Level Street, Brierley Hill at 10.46am. Two ambulances and a MERIT trauma team responded to the scene and arrived to find an off-duty paramedic performing CPR and using a nearby Community Public Access Defibrillator on a man in a critical condition. The team worked to resuscitate the man and managed to restart his heart.'

Hospital Transfer

Following the successful resuscitation, the man was rapidly conveyed to hospital for further emergency care. The quick actions of the off-duty paramedic and the ambulance crews were credited with saving his life. Police cars were also spotted outside the gym during the incident.
