Parmajit Gill, a 50-year-old single mother of four from Wednesbury, died on June 28 after her heart disease was initially dismissed as panic attacks. She had previously survived Stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosed in 2000.
Her son, Dilraj Gill, described his mother as courageous and selfless. 'Despite facing serious illness and many other challenges throughout her life, she showed remarkable strength, resilience, and determination,' he said.
Misdiagnosis of Symptoms
In the weeks before her death, Parmajit experienced shortness of breath and dizzy spells. Medical professionals initially attributed these symptoms to panic attacks, but the episodes became more frequent, leading to her hospitalisation. She was later diagnosed with angina prior to heart failure.
The official cause of death was ischaemic heart disease with mitral regurgitation, with chronic kidney disease and hyperlipidaemia listed as significant contributing conditions.
A Life of Devotion
Parmajit leaves behind Dilraj, 27, and three daughters aged 21, 14, and eight. 'Her children were the centre of her world, and she dedicated her life to caring for and supporting them,' Dilraj said.
He added: 'Our mum will be remembered for her resilience, kindness, compassion, and unwavering love. She faced every challenge with courage and always put others before herself.'
Community Support
Following her death, the family set up a GoFundMe page to cover funeral costs, raising more than £2,500. A statement on the page reads: 'Our beloved mum, a loving mother of four, sadly passed away unexpectedly after suffering from heart failure. She overcame so much in her life, including battling cancer, raising all four of us as a single mother, and facing more hardship than anyone should have to endure.'
The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support: 'During this incredibly difficult time, we have been overwhelmed by the kindness and support shown by our family, friends, neighbours, and the wider community.'
