EDF Energy is introducing a new two-hour rule for households in England, offering customers free electricity during every England match at the World Cup. Starting tomorrow, the initiative allows eligible customers to enjoy zero-cost electricity for two hours while watching the tournament, which is being held in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
How the Free Electricity Offer Works
The offer is exclusively available to EDF customers. Sign-up began on May 29 and will remain open while England is still competing in the tournament. Households that register by 11:59 PM the day before an eligible match will receive two hours of free electricity per home nation game, with an additional hour if the game goes into extra time. The free electricity applies to matches from June 14 onwards.
Customer Reactions and Benefits
Anita Asante, former Lioness professional footballer and broadcaster, shared her excitement about the offer: “Match days are full-on in our house, the big game is on the main TV and I’m defending the remote like I’m back in the starting eleven. I’ve got multi-view running to keep track across every fixture and player stat. Between powering multiple screens and fuelling up with air fryer snacks, the household is operating at full capacity until the final whistle. And now, with a toddler in the mix, I’m excited to build new matchday rituals and create those memories together as a family.”
Joe Souto, Director of Retail at EDF, commented: “Nothing brings the house together quite like a major tournament, and we can’t wait to help customers get behind the home nations this summer with two hours of free electricity for every game. So whether you’re cheering on your team, adopting a second nation for the summer, or simply tuning out and doing anything but watch the football, everyone can enjoy the savings, and how you use it, well, that’s up to you!”
How to Sign Up
To take advantage of the free electricity offer, EDF customers can sign up now on the company's website. The deal is open to existing customers only, and registration must be completed before the deadline to receive the benefit for each match.
