George Knight Reveals Family Health Scare Behind Exit

Love Island star George Knight has finally disclosed the details of the distressing phone call from his parents that prompted his abrupt exit from the 2026 series. The 28-year-old footballer initially kept the reasons private, but has now shared the emotional story behind his departure.

The Shocking Phone Call

Speaking on The Sun’s Showbiz Fix podcast, Knight revealed that producers called him to the villa's beach hut video booth, where he expected a routine check-in. Instead, he was told his parents had contacted the show with urgent news. “I was thinking, oh God, what could this be about?” he recalled. “They said my parents had some news for me and were going to give me a call.”

The news involved a health concern with an immediate family member. Knight explained that his parents felt they would be failing in their duty if they didn’t inform him. “It was a health concern with a member of the immediate family. They said they felt like they weren’t doing their role as a parent if they didn’t let me know,” he said.

No Second Guessing

Knight admitted that leaving the villa was an easy decision. “There was no second guessing my decision to leave,” he insisted. “You’ve got to remind yourself that as much as reality TV is fantastic and great, the priority is your family and who’s close to you.” He noted that the health issue had not been on his radar before entering the show, but escalated unexpectedly.

“This was not on my radar to be a concern and definitely not in the next few months. That’s the honest truth,” he added.

Thanking Fans

After his exit, Knight shared a video on social media thanking fans for their support. “It has been completely overwhelming,” he said. “Moments like this give you a massive point of perspective on the bigger picture. As fun and as great as my six days in the villa were, it’s obviously important for me to be here with my family.” He also thanked ITV’s welfare team for their assistance.

Knight’s departure has sparked widespread sympathy, with fans praising his decision to prioritize family. The star has not ruled out a return to reality TV in the future.
