Urgent Recall of Two Skin Care Products Over Chemical Hazard Concerns

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued immediate safety alerts for two skin care products from the brand Glow & Lovely, citing serious chemical risks that have prompted their withdrawal from the market. The affected items are the Glow & Lovely Hydraglow Rose Enrich Serum Cream 50g and the Glow & Lovely Advanced Multi Vitamin Serum in Cream.

Specific Products and Identification Details

Both products are described as skin creams packaged in pink and white cardboard boxes. The Glow & Lovely Advanced Multi Vitamin Serum in Cream carries a barcode reference of 8961014261721, while the Glow & Lovely Hydraglow Rose Enrich Serum Cream 50g is identified with barcode 8961014255669. These items originate from Pakistan and have been removed from sale following safety assessments.

Detailed Chemical Risk Warnings

For the Glow & Lovely Advanced Multi Vitamin Serum in Cream, the OPSS alert states the product presents a serious chemical risk due to the presence of butylphenyl methylpropional, also known as lilial or BMHCA. This substance is not permitted in cosmetic products under Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, as it may harm the reproductive system, affect unborn children, and cause skin sensitization.

The alert for the Glow & Lovely Hydraglow Rose Enrich Serum Cream 50g highlights that the ingredients list contains incorrect information and fails to specify fragrance allergens. This omission means consumers sensitive to certain allergens are not properly informed and could experience adverse effects, violating the same cosmetics regulation.

Immediate Consumer Actions Recommended

As a result of these product safety reports, the OPSS has recommended that anyone who possesses these items should stop using them immediately and contact the distributor, Lajawab Foods Limited, to request redress. The products have been withdrawn from the market by the distributor following the OPSS intervention.

Consumers are urged to check their skincare products against the barcode references provided and discontinue use if matched, as these chemical risks pose significant health threats. The OPSS continues to monitor compliance with safety standards to protect public health.
