A Birmingham patient who verbally abused and assaulted a doctor's secretary after being removed from the GP's list has been sentenced. Shuaib Al-Azawe, 30, of City Road, Soho, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on May 1, 2026, after pleading guilty to assault by beating and sending an offensive message via a public communication network.
The incident occurred on May 27 last year at Ejaz Medical Centre. Al-Azawe had been deregistered from the practice due to previous aggressive and inappropriate behaviour. When he called to inquire about his removal, he told the medical secretary 'suck your mum' and used a racial slur. He then attended the centre in person, kicked the front entrance, and threw a water bottle at the secretary twice, the court heard.
Prosecutor Zuzanna Pogorzelska described the impact on the victim: 'She was left severely impacted, scared, and embarrassed. The assault left her constantly on edge, feeling disrespected and humiliated. She feared that footage of the incident could be shared on social media to mock her.' The court noted the incident was racially motivated, with the water bottle considered a weapon.
Al-Azawe, who suffers from paranoia and emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD), was not on proper medication at the time. His lawyer, Mr. Soor, said: 'He is genuinely remorseful and accepts that no one deserves to be abused. His life is now very different; he has undergone therapy, moved away from the area, and is studying business at college.'
The court sentenced Al-Azawe to a 12-month community order, including 20 rehabilitation days for anger management and 80 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £100 compensation to the victim and a £114 victim surcharge. District Judge Briony Clarke emphasised the seriousness of the assault and the ongoing fear it caused the victim.
