The inquest into the tragic death of a woman from Horncastle, who disappeared just before Christmas and was later found deceased on a local beach, has been formally opened this week.
Discovery on South Parade Beach
Candice Watts, aged 40 and from the Horncastle area, was reported as a missing person shortly before the festive period. She had last been seen on December 22, 2025, prompting concern among authorities and the community.
In a heartbreaking development, her body was discovered on South Parade Beach at approximately 8am on December 30, 2025. The discovery was made by a police officer who was actively involved in the search for the high-risk missing person.
Inquest Proceedings and Initial Findings
The inquest into Candice Watts' death was opened on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Myle Cross Centre in Lincoln. Senior Coroner for Greater Lincolnshire, Paul Smith, presided over the brief hearing.
During the proceedings, the court was informed that a post-mortem examination had been conducted. The examination revealed no visible injuries on Candice's body that could indicate a specific cause or contributing factor to her death.
