Post Office Urges UK to Send Christmas Mail Early Amid Royal Mail Delay Fears
Post Office: Send Christmas Mail Early to Avoid Delays

The Post Office has issued an urgent plea to households across the United Kingdom, advising them to bring forward the date they send their Christmas cards and gifts. This pre-emptive warning comes amid concerns that Royal Mail services could face significant delays during the festive peak.

Critical Deadline: Act by Next Monday

The service is specifically urging the public to organise their festive post by next Monday, December 8. This date has been flagged as the expected busiest day at Post Office branches this season. By acting before this surge, senders can greatly improve the chances of their parcels arriving on time.

Research conducted by the Post Office reveals a notable shift in sending habits this year. 33 per cent of households are planning to send more gifts compared to last Christmas, a substantial increase from the 20 per cent recorded previously. Furthermore, over a third of Brits consider sending parcels and cards an important festive tradition.

A Nation of Last-Minute Posters

Despite the emotional importance placed on this tradition, the data suggests many leave it dangerously late. The research indicates that only one in three people plan to post their items by early to mid-December. Alarmingly, eight per cent admit they will send everything in the final week leading right up to Christmas Day itself.

Candice Ohandjanian, Post Office Mails and Parcels Director, commented on the expected demand. “This Christmas is shaping up to be one of the busiest yet, with nearly three quarters of Brits planning to buy the same number, or even more, gifts for loved ones than last year,” she said.

“And when it comes to sending those carefully chosen presents, the local Post Office remains the main place the public rely on to ensure they arrive safely.”

More Than Just Royal Mail Services

The Post Office also highlighted its expanded role in the parcel ecosystem. Branches are not just for Royal Mail and Parcelforce services; they can also be used to collect or drop off prepaid parcels for other major carriers. This includes:

  • Amazon
  • DPD
  • DHL
  • Evri

This service is available in selected branches, offering greater convenience for customers using multiple delivery firms.

Ohandjanian added: “Whether it’s expert advice on international shipping, help with customs forms, finding the best delivery option, or simply a convenient spot to collect or drop off parcels, Post Office is here to make Christmas sending stress-free.”

This festive warning follows recent news that compensation schemes for victims of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal are set to be improved, with a new appeals process and funded legal advice for post office operators.
