Jamie Carragher: 'Special' Morgan Rogers Could Win Player of the Year for Aston Villa
Carragher: Rogers Could Win Player of the Year

Liverpool icon and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has singled out Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers for the highest praise, labelling him a 'special' talent who could be in contention for the PFA Player of the Year award. Carragher suggested the young Englishman could be the driving force behind an unlikely Premier League title push for Unai Emery's high-flying side.

Carragher's Glowing Assessment of Rogers

Speaking on Sky Sports after Villa's dramatic 3-2 comeback win over West Ham United, Carragher was effusive in his praise for Rogers' match-winning performance. 'Morgan Rogers is something special,' Carragher stated. 'He's been one of those players that has sort of come from nowhere.'

The pundit highlighted Rogers' rapid development since his move from Middlesbrough, noting he has transformed from a promising young player into one of the league's elite. 'He's now looking like one of the best players in the Premier League,' Carragher added, suggesting this rise could be key if Villa are to sustain a title challenge against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.

Villa's Stunning Form and Title Talk

Carragher's comments come as Aston Villa enjoy a phenomenal run of form. The victory over West Ham marked a club-record ninth consecutive win in all competitions, with six of those coming in the Premier League. Their league form is particularly impressive, having taken 30 points from a possible 33 since their only recent defeat, a 2-0 loss to Liverpool in early November.

Despite the club downplaying their championship credentials, their relentless form has inevitably sparked discussion. With Villa trailing West Ham 2-1, it was Rogers who inspired the turnaround, scoring a quick equaliser after half-time before netting a stunning 79th-minute winner.

The Player of the Year Debate

While Carragher admitted he does not expect Villa to ultimately win the league, he framed Rogers' importance by comparing him to the standout stars at other title contenders. 'If Man City win the title, they have Erling Haaland... If Arsenal win it, I think of Declan Rice,' Carragher explained.

He then posed the critical question regarding Villa: 'Who could drive them to the title? Who is that special that they could be head and shoulders above everyone in the league? The one player I look at is Rogers.' Carragher pointed out that Rogers, a former PFA Young Player of the Year, could now make the leap to the senior award this season if his incredible impact continues.

The pundit's analysis underscores the remarkable story unfolding at Villa Park, where a player signed for a modest fee is being talked about as a potential league MVP, fuelling dreams of a historic championship bid.
