Aston Villa took just three minutes to open the scoring in their pre-season opener in the Far East, as Emi Buendia swept the ball past goalkeeper Kartika Ajie from inside the box after Kosta Nedeljkovic's pull-back.
Indonesia All Stars rarely threatened Villa's goal. Their only real first-half chance came in the 31st minute when Caraka raced down the right and crashed a shot against the post. Villa doubled their lead late in the first half, Ross Barkley drilling a left-footed strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Unai Emery made ten changes at the break, keeping only goalkeeper James Wright on the pitch. The reshuffled side maintained Villa's tempo, and Brian Madjo extended the lead in the 55th minute, finishing left-footed after Luka Lynch found him in the box.
The hosts grabbed a consolation goal in the 82nd minute when a rebound fell kindly after James Wright made a save. Villa saw out the remaining minutes without alarm, completing a professional display in searing heat.
Quick Start in the Heat
Buendia opened the scoring after just three minutes, winding up inside a crowded box to finish past Kartika Ajie. The early goal settled Villa, who dominated possession in the oppressive conditions. Nedeljkovic, playing at right-back, was a constant threat with his pace and provided the assist.
Indonesia All Stars' only notable attack in the first half came when Caraka blazed through down the right and hit the post, leaving Wright stranded. Wright responded well and later made a sharp challenge to deny Kelly Stroyer just before the break.
Villa's second goal arrived in the 44th minute. Ross Barkley, operating in midfield, collected the ball on the edge of the box and drilled a left-footed strike past the goalkeeper, giving Villa a comfortable cushion at half-time.
Ten Changes, Same Intensity
Emery rotated his entire outfield for the second half, bringing on Matty Cash, Tyrone Mings, Ian Maatsen, and João Gomes. Only Wright remained from the first half, and he was largely untroubled until the late consolation.
Brian Madjo proved a handful for the Indonesia All Stars defence. The young striker got his goal in the 55th minute, showing strength to hold off a defender before finishing decisively with his left foot. Luka Lynch slipped him in behind the defence.
The hosts scored against the run of play in the 82nd minute, turning in the rebound after Wright had saved an initial effort. It was the only blemish on an otherwise controlled display.

- James Wright – Little to do until the 31st minute when Caraka hit the post. Came off his line well to deny Stroyer in the 44th minute.
- Kosta Nedeljkovic – Teed up Buendia for the opener and was a constant menace with his pace down the right. His delivery in the 20th minute deserved a finish.
- Modou Cissé – Strong and physically imposing, the 20-year-old defended well and played a nice pass to release Guessand.
- Pau Torres – Missed two headed opportunities in the first half, heading wide and seeing a second header saved.
- Triston Rowe – Relished the space at left-back and combined well with Garnacho, providing an overlapping outlet.
- Victor Lindelof – Slotted into midfield and pinged a couple of excellent chipped passes forward, one deserving a better finish.
- Ross Barkley – Took his goal well, drilling home left-footed, and always looked to feed Garnacho in dangerous areas.
- John McGinn – Created Villa's first chance for Guessand and whipped in two perfect corners that Torres failed to convert.
- Emi Buendia – Scored the opener and could have had an assist, but failed to spot Garnacho in space at the end of the half.
- Alejandro Garnacho – Showed flashes of his talent, seeing a shot blocked and flashing a ball across goal with no takers. Looked sharp.
- Evann Guessand – Worked tirelessly out of possession, making tackles and covering ground. Denied from close range early on.
Player Ratings: Second Half Substitutes
- James Wright – Stayed on for the full 90 and couldn't keep the clean sheet, but made a smart save before the rebound was tucked in.
- Matty Cash – Took set-pieces and offered energy down the right from both an attacking and defensive perspective.
- TJ Carroll – Composed in possession and formed a solid partnership with Tyrone Mings.
- Tyrone Mings – Should have done better with a header in the 70th minute after Maatsen's cross.
- Ian Maatsen – Pushed forward at every opportunity, galloping up the left flank and making himself available in attack.
- Lamare Bogarde – Effectively anchored the midfield alongside João Gomes, keeping the side ticking.
- João Gomes – Made a firm but fair tackle to win back possession and broke up play well.
- Alysson – Worked hard out of possession and got forward on the right, but his pass to Madjo was poor and he was subbed off.
- Luka Lynch – Showed his ability to turn and drive forward. Assisted Madjo's goal, though he could have picked out Maatsen earlier.
- George Hemmings – The exciting midfielder took responsibility in possession and enjoyed running with the ball, carrying on his impressive pre-season form.
- Brian Madjo – A constant threat up front. His power and strength helped him hold off defenders, and he took his goal well with his left foot.
- Brad Burrowes – Came on late for Alysson and had little time to make an impact.
What's Next for Villa?
Villa now travel to Bangkok to face BG Pathum United on Tuesday before taking on Bayern Munich in Hong Kong on Friday. The wins against Indonesia All Stars, following friendlies against Walsall, FC Porto, and Real Sociedad, leave Emery's side with momentum as they build towards the new Premier League season.
The match provided useful minutes for key players and allowed the manager to assess a number of young talents in a competitive setting. Garnacho, in particular, caught the eye with his direct running and confidence on the left wing.
Overall, it was a job done in Indonesia. While the quality of the opposition was limited, Villa showed professionalism and intent, and the scoreline could have been more emphatic had Pau Torres or Evann Guessand converted their chances.
