West Bromwich Albion women's star Aune Heggebo has made a bold prediction ahead of a potential World Cup clash between Norway and England, backing her compatriots Erling Haaland and teammate Heggem over Harry Kane and the Three Lions.
Heggebo's confidence in Norway's stars
Speaking to BirminghamWorld, the Norwegian midfielder expressed unwavering faith in her national team's attacking prowess. 'I would back Erling and Heggem over Kane and England any day,' Heggebo said. 'Norway has the quality to beat anyone on our day, and I believe we can go all the way.'
Heggebo, who joined West Brom in 2022, has been impressed by the form of Manchester City's Haaland and her compatriot Heggem, who plays for Brann. She highlighted their ability to perform on the biggest stage.
Norway's World Cup ambitions
Norway are drawn in Group A of the 2023 Women's World Cup alongside co-hosts New Zealand, Switzerland, and the Philippines. Heggebo believes the team has the depth to challenge for the title. 'We have a strong squad with players in top leagues around the world. If we play to our potential, we can beat any team,' she added.
The men's World Cup showdown between Norway and England remains hypothetical, but Heggebo's comments reflect the growing belief in Norwegian football. Haaland has scored 21 goals in 23 appearances for Norway, while Heggem has netted 3 times in 10 caps.
West Brom form and Heggebo's role
At club level, Heggebo has been a key figure for West Brom in the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division. The Baggies currently sit third in the table, with Heggebo contributing 4 goals and 3 assists this season. She credited her teammates for their support and expressed optimism for the remainder of the campaign.
'We have a great group here at West Brom, and I'm enjoying my football. The aim is to push for promotion,' she said.
