Lyndon Dykes could still be in the Championship next season after entering talks with Charlton Athletic over a new contract at The Valley. The 30-year-old striker left Birmingham City to join Charlton in the January transfer window and played an integral role in the Addicks avoiding relegation back to League One.
Dykes' Impact at Charlton
Dykes scored three goals and provided three assists in 21 appearances for Charlton over the second half of the season. His contributions were vital in helping the club secure their Championship status.
Charlton have become the latest Championship club to release their retained list and have confirmed they 'remain in discussions' with Dykes over a new deal. Dykes only signed a short-term contract until the end of the season and is set to become a free agent in July.
Message to Birmingham City Fans
Reflecting on his season, Dykes gave a nod to his former employers. He said: 'I want to say a massive thanks to all the Birmingham City fans, it didn't end the way I would have liked it to but for my short time with you guys we created some memories that we all won't forget.'
Dykes perfected the art of scoring late during his Blues career, where he was primarily used as a substitute by manager Chris Davies. The Scotland international scored stoppage-time winners against Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City to give Blues vital early wins in the Championship. He also scored the goal that sent the club to Wembley for the Vertu Trophy final.
