The Argentine shot-stopper missed Villa's last two matches against FC Basel and West Ham United due to the injury, having previously been forced to abandon his warm-up before the Brighton game.
However, he did feature against Arsenal recently, and the club is now increasingly hopeful he will be fit to return to the starting line-up at the weekend. "Emi is progressing well," Emery confirmed. "He is training individually and feeling better, much better. Tomorrow we will decide if he is available for Sunday."
Elliott Sidelined by Sickness
While Martinez's situation looks promising, Emery confirmed a fresh setback for midfielder Harvey Elliott. The player has been ruled out of preparation for the United match after falling ill. "Harvey Elliott is sick and didn't train today or yesterday," the Villa boss stated.
