Aston Villa have been handed a double injury boost ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain, with John McGinn and Alejandro Garnacho both training at Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday morning.
The duo missed Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich through injury last Friday but are now expected to feature in Wednesday’s game against PSG in Salzburg.
McGinn and Garnacho Injury Updates
McGinn suffered a knee injury against BG Pathum one week ago but, after tests and a scan, the captain was cleared of any long-term damage. Garnacho, meanwhile, suffered a facial injury after being blocked by a Pathum player at the end of the first half.
Both players took part in the training session, indicating they are ready for selection. Villa qualified for the Super Cup by beating SC Freiburg 3-0 in Istanbul, winning the Europa League and securing a second major European honour in the club’s history.
PSG and Emery's Super Cup History
PSG beat Arsenal on penalties to lift the Champions League, and they are targeting successive Super Cup successes after beating Tottenham Hotspur on penalties last summer in Udine.
This is Unai Emery’s fourth Super Cup as a coach. He was a runner-up with Sevilla in 2014 and 2015, and with Villarreal in 2021. It will be the second Super Cup meeting between Emery and Luis Enrique; Enrique’s Barcelona beat Emery’s Sevilla 5-4 after extra time in Tbilisi in 2015.
