Trafford Pursuit Blocked by Manchester City
Unai Emery's side, sitting third in the table and just three points off the top, had been linked with a move for Manchester City's James Trafford. However, according to reports, Pep Guardiola's side have 'no intention' of selling the 23-year-old goalkeeper next month.
Trafford, who re-joined City last summer, has found opportunities limited behind first-choice Gianluigi Donnarumma, making just six appearances in all competitions. Despite his lack of game time, City view him as important cover and are prepared to keep him at the Etihad Stadium, where his contract runs until June 2030.
The news is a blow not only to Villa but also to other reported suitors Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

With the Trafford deal appearing off the table, attention at Villa Park has turned to identifying a viable alternative to provide competition and cover for World Cup winner Emi Martinez.
Sheffield United's Michael Cooper has emerged as a prime candidate. The 26-year-old shot-stopper was subject to interest from West Ham earlier this year, with his price tag believed to be in the region of £15 million.
Cooper has built a strong reputation in the Championship, making 64 appearances for the Blades since joining from Plymouth Argyle in 2024, where he played 170 times. He was instrumental in Sheffield United's run to the Championship play-off final last season.

While he would initially be expected to deputise for Martinez, Cooper is seen as a goalkeeper with the potential to develop and challenge for the number one shirt in the future. His extensive experience in the Football League marks him as a reliable and proven performer ready for a step up.
