Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins is absent from the squad for the season opener against Brighton, but reports that he is travelling to Saudi Arabia to complete a move to Al-Hilal are unfounded. No agreement has been reached, and Villa still prefer to keep the forward.
Fifth Bid Expected From Al-Hilal
Al-Hilal are expected to table a fifth bid for Watkins, with their first four offers falling short of Villa’s valuation. The latest proposal was understood to be worth around £45m. Watkins is thought to be open to the transfer given the lucrative salary on offer in the Saudi Pro League.
Emery's Response to Watkins Absence
Before the match at the Amex, Villa boss Unai Emery was asked by Sky Sports why Watkins was not in the squad. His response was brief: “Silence, we are here today to play. Nothing to speak about.”
Villa are also interested in signing Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson should Watkins be sold. Jackson previously worked with Emery during the Villa boss’s time at Villarreal before moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2023.
The situation remains fluid, with Villa holding firm on their valuation while Al-Hilal prepare another approach.
