Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Vitor Pereira has made it clear that he wants to keep defender Ladislav Krejci at the club, despite reported interest from elsewhere. Speaking ahead of a crucial Premier League clash, Pereira addressed the speculation surrounding the Czech international's future, stating that Krejci is a player he wants to work with.
Pereira's Stance on Krejci
“He’s a player I want,” Pereira said, according to Birmingham World. “I know his qualities, and I believe he can help us achieve our goals this season.” The Portuguese coach emphasised that Krejci remains an important part of his plans, even as the January transfer window approaches.
Krejci, who joined Wolves from Sparta Prague in the summer, has made a limited number of appearances this season, leading to speculation that he could be loaned out or sold to gain more playing time. However, Pereira’s comments suggest that the club is keen to retain the 25-year-old, who is under contract until 2029.
Player's Desire for Minutes
Despite the manager’s backing, Krejci has expressed a desire to play more regularly, with sources close to the player indicating that he is open to a move if his situation does not improve. Pereira acknowledged this, saying, “I understand that every player wants to play. But we have a strong squad, and competition for places is high. He needs to be patient and take his chances when they come.”
The defender has made just two league starts this season, with his last appearance coming in a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in December. Wolves have struggled for form in recent weeks, sitting 17th in the Premier League table, just two points above the relegation zone.
Transfer Window Speculation
With the transfer window set to open, several clubs, including those in Serie A and the Bundesliga, have been linked with a move for Krejci. However, Pereira’s public endorsement could be crucial in convincing the player to stay at Molineux and fight for his place.
